I am always on the look out for healthier versions of desserts. I love dessert, my Girl looooooves dessert...we eat a lot of them. It's nice to at least feel like I'm giving my child some nutritional value when I make it!
These are great because you use a whole banana per serving, which cuts down on the calories from graham crackers (that's where all the calories are in a s'more, right?) and it has the added bonus of being gluten free! We've been trying to make more gluten free meals because Hilary's Girl is sensitive to gluten just like her mama, and any time I can make a meal that both Girl's can have it's a plus.
You can also add any non-traditional s'mores toppings you want. We've done peanut butter, walnuts, sprinkles, ice cream...really the possibilities are endless. And delicious.
You will need:
1. Cut your banana in half, then slice down the middle lengthwise:
2. Add in marshmallows and chocolate chips:
3. Wrap in tin foil:
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until the bananas are soft and beginning to get mushy. Take out your foil packet and open it up to expose the bananas. Set your oven to broil and put your packet back in with the top open for 5 minutes or so, until the tops of the marshmallows get golden brown and the chocolate melts:
5. Put them in your mouth, eat until gone:
There you go! An easy, gluten free and healthy(er) version of everyone's favorite camping dessert!
