sewing for me: easy summer skirts

I'm always in the need for some cute summer skirts. As a girl with what Hilary and I affectionately call "stumper legs" it is hard for me to find skirts that are a flattering length on me. I find it easier to make my own rather then pay $20 for something I am going to have to hem up anyways.

So a while ago I pinned this tutorial by Elisabeth from the adorable blog My Growing Home:

She took a J. Crew skirt and knocked it off herself, and I liked her version even better then the original! Seriously, this woman has skillz. The best part? She shows you how to make pockets...I die. I am in love with skirts and dresses that have pockets!

I decided I needed to make my own, and I did! Here are the results:

This purple floral skirt is my favorite, and I hemmed it just exactly where it needed to be so that it's flattering on my body type. Love!

And did I mention it has pockets?!?

This green floral one is my muslin  and my first attempt. I'm not as in love with it, but mostly because I chose a cheaper fabric with not as nice of a drape for my first try. Still cute, and totally wearable!

You should absolutely go check out her tutorial. She did an amazing job of showing you step by step with super clear pictures how to make your own version of this adorable skirt. Tell her Hilary and I sent you!
