I adore Audrey's amazing blog Putting Me Together, so when she posted that it was once again time for the 7 x 7 remix at Ma Nouvelle Mode I knew I had to join in this time! If you don't know what the 7 x 7 remix is, you can read about it here. And if you haven't been to Putting Me Together you need to run not walk and go check it out! Audrey is the master at remixing, and she breaks it all down into easy steps so that you can do exactly what she does. Not only that, but her style is both trendy and modest, which I love.
Everyone else participating posted their pieces/outfits yesterday, but since we already had a post scheduled for this Wednesday (our Father's Day recipe roundup), I'm a day late and posting mine today. Hopefully the blogging gods will forgive me!
So there are my seven pieces, and here is how I remixed them into seven outfits!
That was a lot of photo taking, let me tell you! I have to give a huge thank you to my little four year old "photographer," (my daughter) who was paid in ice cream for her services. She was a champ, even when her model turned into a crabby diva. For that I paid her in ice cream and rice crispy treats.

To this outfit I added a big, chunky turquoise necklace, which is actually a silicon teething statement necklace! It's so cool! My amazing friend Suzzy lent it to me, because the Dude is going through some massive teething pains right now. I think it's pretty realistic as a mother of a toddler to have this incorporated into my wardrobe.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about wearing a tank over a t-shirt, but I have to say I kind of loved it! I really like that the tank top sort of looks like a vest, and the t-shirt adds a pop of color. Very preppy, which is a change for me. I'm already imagining what this combo of tops would look like over the purple dress...
|floral cut offs, mint green t-shirt, nude wedges & black biker jacket|
This was probably my least favorite combo, but I thought I'd post it to document my experimenting process. I would probably wear flats with this outfit if I wasn't limited to one pair of shoes. Something about the leather jacket/heels/shorts together isn't really my style, the jacket makes the shorts look too...short. Still, not too shabby!

I loved this outfit! As you all know, I've been experimenting with florals + stripes together at the same time, and so I was loving this. I think the nude stripes in the top and the bright floral compliment each other well. To bring out the mint green in the shorts I added my favorite mint green beaded necklace (that I made!). I would absolutely wear this outfit in real life. Like, tomorrow.

This was my first time ever layering a shirt over a dress. I'm not kidding. I've seen it done by a million talented style blogger (Audrey does it all the time!) and I've always wanted to try it but never had the proper motivation. Now I did! And I. Love. It. I will be doing this with all of my dresses! I love that it gives me so many more options for outfits! All I did for this outfit was add a cute belt at the waist and I was done.
|purple dress & nude wedges|
This is the purple dress by itself, with just a belt over the top and that super mom-tastic turquoise teething statement necklace. Can I just say how much I love the turquoise with that color of purple? So cute!

This was my favorite outfit! Did I mention I am now addicted to layering shirts over dresses...? I love how the cute knot in the t-shirt accents my waist, and it almost looks like a whole new color blocked dress! I added a vintage wooden and plastic bead necklace that I found thrifting, and I have a cute, casual outfit. Love!
And on a side note, do you know what the best part about layering a shirt over a dress is? When the Dude covers me in food/drool/dirt I can take off the shirt and still have a few hours of cleanliness!
I just have to say that this challenge was so much fun, and really opened up my eyes to all the possibilities I'm missing out on by thinking inside the box about my clothes. When I decided to do it I was really skeptical about being able to really come up with seven whole outfits with only seven pieces, but it really worked!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go raid my closet for shirts to put over my dresses now...
