For those of you who are regular readers here at Domestic Bliss Squared, you know that Hilary and I love to make jewelry. So you can imagine how crazy thrilled we were when the wonderful people at Darice Crafts and Styled By Tori Spelling agreed to let us try out some of their amazing DIY jewelry line! They sent us a big box of pretties to play with (and we experimented while watching the season premier of Project Runway, a double win!), and we could not wait to share them with you today.
The really innovative part of the Styled by Tori Spelling line is that absolutely everything is interchangeable. There are necklace "bottoms" that connect by tiny clips to different lengths of chain, or necklace "tops," to make practically anything you want. The best part about this line of jewelry is that this requires absolutely no jewelry making skillz at all, and no tools unless you want to use them!
There are four collections in the Styled by Tori Spelling line of jewelry, Boho, Glam, Glitz and Noir. We got a mix of all the collections to play with, and they were all gorgeous.
Here are some of Jessica's favorites (mostly from the Glitz collection):
and some of Hilary's favorites (she liked the Noir collection):
There are three basic kinds of necklace clips to help you customize your pieces:
The earrings are also interchangable, and simply snap off of one set of earrings and onto another, so that the same pair of earring hooks can work for all your Styled by Tori Spelling earrings:
We really wanted to show how much you can do with this fun jewelry line, so of course we had to come up with two ways to customize it and make these pretties your own style. We had a "Make it work!" moment. That's what happens when you combine DIY jewelry design and Tim Gunn!
Our first project just shows you how customizable this line really is. My (Jessica's) absolute favorite pieces were these cobalt blue chandelier earrings from the Glitz collection. I loved them, but I knew there were other ways to wear them and decided to get creative. So I turned these showstopper earrings into a pendant necklace, using absolutely no jewelry tools! Tim Gunn would be proud.
I just used these four simple steps to take these from earrings to a necklace:
1. Unclasp the earring hook and take it off of the earring.
2. Put the earring onto a necklace clip.
3. Attach the clip to your chain (Jessica used both the long and short chains from the Styled by Tori Spelling collection clipped together to create one really long chain).
4. Ta da! You have a fun pendant necklace!
For my second project I decided to get a little bit more technical and bust out my jewelry making tools. I loved this necklace bottom, also from the Glitz collection:
Isn't it fun? But you know who else loved it? Hilary! We decided that we would split up the necklace bottom half to make two necklaces with only two strands of beads each. That way there would be one for each of us!
Here's what we did, using only a simple pair of needle nosed pliers:
1. Laid out the necklace to see where it needed to be taken apart.
2. Opened the jump ring that connected all four lengths of beaded chain.
3. Took the chain off of the jump ring and laid it out to see which ones we wanted to combine.
4. Used one set of Tori Spelling necklace clips and re-used the original jump rings to make two necklaces!
The necklace is still beautiful with just the two two strands, and now we both get one! And I discovered that there are actually three ways to wear it:
I owe the discovery of the single strand necklace to my daughter, who put it on that way thinking that's how it was supposed to be worn. Brilliant! (admittedly I'm a little biased about her brilliance...) It looks a lot like a more colorful version of my green layering necklace.
So not only were the people at Styled by Tori Spelling nice enough to send Hilary and I some pretties, but they are also going to give some to YOU! That's right, they are letting us give away $75 in Styled by Tori Spelling jewelry to one lucky reader! You can enter to your heart's content below:
