When the lovely Chelsea from Get Your Crap Together sent out an email asking if anyone would like to test her new Back 2 School Pattern Pack, you know we said yes right away! We love Chelsea's blog, and were really excited to be a part of her 'bus tour' of features for her new pattern.
The Back 2 School Pattern Pack includes a bunch of really cute school supply patterns. There is a drawstring backpack, crayon and pencil rolls, snack pouches and a lunch bag. I chose to make the crayon roll pattern, as my family is going on a road trip soon and I knew my daughter would love this in the car!
This turned out so super cute! It rolls up into this little bundle, then unrolls into this beauty:
I love love love this! My daughter loves it too. I chose this ridiculously cute pattern of kitties eating a picnic of milk and fish bones (really? Just the bones?) from my stash, and paired it with a vintage pink check. Instead of leaving the edges plain, I used some giant pink rick-rac trim to make a cute scalloped edge and add a little girly touch.
(P.S. How cute are these Up & Up brand crayons from Target? I'm loving the little white dots all over the crayon wrapper. I really appreciate good design, and Target never fails to deliver, even from it's "generic" brands. All right, weird tangent over!)
This pattern was really well thought out, and it was a super quick, easy sew, perfect for stash busting. I did change the pattern a bit, making it a little longer (I added 3 1/2 inches) to accommodate a few more crayons then the 12 from the pattern. I also used 1/4 inch double fold bias tape sewn together instead of a ribbon for the ties. These adjustments were really easy and I was impressed at how well all the patterns lend themselves to customization. You could be a beginning sewist and get fantastic results, but you could also be more experienced (like I like to think I am) and use these patterns as a great jumping-off point for more elaborate designs.
