Star Wars inspired artwork (plus free printable!)

Soooo...as you may have guessed (from this post, or this one, or this one..) my husband and I (Jessica) are kind of nerds. "Kind of" being a generous way a phrasing it.

So being as we both love science fiction, I knew I wanted something fun and sci-fi-esque for the wall art in our bedroom. At first I thought I wanted "Live long and prosper/Peace and long life," but my husband convinced me that "I love you/I know." would be far more appropriate to our marriage. And it is! I love it.

This was a super easy project, and today I'm going to show you how to make your own Star Wars inspired wall art, and I've included the printable for you all as well!

You'll start out by printing out the pictures at the bottom of this post (the instructions on how to print them are below as well):

You'll also need two picture frames. I used two thrifted black frames I got for $0.95 apiece with an 8 x 10 mat. You  could also use cheap 8 x 10 frames from somewhere like Wal Mart if you can't find two matching frames second hand. Although I do think that if you found a fancy frame for the "I love you" print, and a utilitarian frame for the "I know" printable that would look cool as well.

Once I printed my artwork, it was a little pixelated around the edges, so I went over outline of the letters with a sharpie marker, just to make them look a little clearer and cleaner:

Check it out below. The difference is subtle, but looks a lot nicer:

Next, gently tape your picture into your frame, making sure it's even:

Triple check that it's even and centered:

And you're done! Now you have super awesome Star Wars artwork of your very own!

Here's a picture of what they look like hanging on our bedroom wall. Please excuse the bordello drapes, it's finally gotten cold here and these are our ugly but functional insulated curtains. But you get the idea:

Here are the printables. Simply right click on the images below, and save them to your computer as a .jpg file. You should then be able to print them on your own computer. Just make sure you only print them in black and white:

There you have it! A super easy and fun project that would make a fun gift, just in time for Christmas. If you're looking for more of our other DIY projects, you can check out our DIY page here. And if you make your own, send us a pic of them hanging in your own house, we'd love to see it!

  1. I love this idea. I think I, personally, would choose a different font because I've never been very fond of the "sketched" look of this one - but I am definitely inspired and think this is super fun!
