So it's been a few weeks since our last holiday dinner, and about this time every January I start jonesing for some Turkey again! No joke, my brother and I are obsessed with turkey, he makes it at his house probably 6-10 times every winter when it's cheap. So "only" having two turkey dinners a year is hard on me!
Luckily, my husband and I have a deal. Every year after the Holidays are over, he makes homemade turkey soup for me, and freezes it. Yay! I love turkey soup! But it comes out of the freezer looking a little something like this:
Huh. If you're thinking it looks like a frozen block of meat all stuck together, you're right. That's exactly what it is.
It needed some love.
When the nice people at Pacific foods offered to let me try some of their Organic Carton products, I knew I was going to save them for my after-the-holidays turkey soup cravings. I was super excited when I opened the box and saw just what I needed!
Organic Simply Chicken Stock (with no salt added!)
Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce
And Organic Pumpkin Puree
I wa really excited when Pacific offered to let us try some of their new carton packaged products, because we have loved and used pacific products for years in our hosue! We try to eat organically whenever possible, and we absolutely love their soups (the tomato red pepper soup is to die for!). There was one week where I ate their black bean soup for lunch almost a week straight, seriously. Also, we love that they carry organic and environmentally friendly products that are affordable! We like to eat organic when we can, but with a family of four it gets expensive really quick.
So when they came I hoarded my Pacific goodies until we busted out our frozen turkey soup last week, so I could properly test them out. Then I did this:
Ooh! So fancy of me!
Kind of embarrassingly simple! But our homemade turkey stock never quite is enough for all the goodies we cram in our soup, so I always have to add chicken stock of some kind and I hate it. It makes the turkey soup taste artificial and salty, and I can't taste the turkey any more. This stuff was perfect, and didn't overpower the home made turkey broth it was mixed with.
On the side we added what was my kid's favorite part of the meal, the organic pacific jellied cranberry sauce spread as a jam on french bread! They each ate about four slices, then my daughter polished off the rest of the cranberry sauce with a spoon.
This made for a simple and hearty and very delicious meal, and as always we were very happy with the quality of Pacific's products. And hey, I got my mid-january turkey fix!
