last week I (Jessica) showed you the heart hair clips that I made for my daughter for Valentine's day. Today I'm going to show you how I made her adorable cupcake headband to wear to her class Valentine's day party.
As I mentioned previously, I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's day. So this project also took about 10 minutes, and can be done with a glue gun! It's almost exactly the same process I used to make her giant sparkly bow headband last Easter.
I started with a sparkly red headband that I got from the $1 bins at Joann Fabrics and Crafts. That's it up there on the top left. I also bought these super sparkly little cupcakes, with the idea that I would tear this weird cupcake clip thing apart and use the cupcakes themselves. Why are these cupcakes on a clip on sticks in the first place? I'm really confused by that.
1. Start with your cupcakes or any other little novelty figure/toy. I used these Styrofoam cupcakes I found a Joann Fabrics and Crafts. They were originally priced at $3, but anyone who has ever shopped at Joann Fabrics knows that you never, ever, EVER pay the original sticker price for anything, that's just silly. I think I paid about $1 for these.
2. If there is anything attached to the bottom of your figure, take it out. It was easy enough to remove this one from the bottom of the cupcake.
3. I added one of the leftover hearts from the hair clips I made for her a few days ago, but you could use any piece of fabric cut into a heart shape (or any shape really). I glued the heart to the headband, and then added a giant blob of hot glue on top.
4. Glue your figure to the fabric, holding it down until the glue is set. And you're done!
I bet you can guess that this will get a lot of wear year round. I'm actually tempted to wear it myself. I hope you enjoyed the second of my fantastically lazy valentine's day crafts!
